Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a specialised technique recommended for couples undergoing IVF to optimise results, and is generally recommended for severe male infertility.

The procedure involves directly injecting a single selected sperm into the egg to facilitate fertilisation. Direct introduction ensures that fertilisation occurs because it allows for more precision, despite issues such as low sperm count or poor sperm motility. In turn, this increases a couple’s chances of conception.
